Room 103 – Kristin Cody

Dear Students and Families,

The students have been working hard in center groups focusing on math, reading, writing, building, dramatic play, media, and life-centered activities. The students are completing hands-on activities in small group lessons and participate in many interactive, read-aloud lessons.

In social studies, we continue to explore a variety of cultures and traditions by studying holidays. The students recently learned songs related to Black History Month. The students created a banner titled My Own Two Hands and decorated the banner with their handprints and pictures of all the ways that they change the world each and every day. We are currently completing a unit focusing on community helpers. The children are enjoying role playing as they dress up and act out their favorite community helpers.

In science, the students are engaging in hands-on activities focusing on winter and spring seasons. The students participate in interactive lessons to discover how we experience each of the seasons through our five senses. We are reading the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar as we study the life cycle of a butterfly. The students take turns imitating actions while we learn about each stage in the life cycle of a butterfly. We will soon be learning about the life cycle of a plant as we observe seeds grow into flowers!

Our friend, Pete the Cat, continues to join us in our adventures this year! We have purchased many Pete the Cat stories on our monthly CBI outings to Barnes and Noble. As we read the stories of Pete the Cat, he reminds us to keep our heads up and to always be kind to others. Pete the Cat also encourages us to make strides in our academics! Pete’s story Pete’s Got Class has helped us learn to count and join sets! Pete the Cat continues to model a positive attitude for the students and staff members in 103!

We are so proud of all that we have accomplished so far this year!
