Room 104 – Judith Carrasco

Judith Carrasco, The Phoenix Center

Dear Students and Families,

Hello and welcome to Room 104! I look forward to watching the students grow as they encounter new experiences this school year. Our educational programming focuses on the whole student as academics, life skills, and social skills are addressed by using a variety of methods such as technology, pictures, social stories, and hands-on experiences. Throughout the school year, we will learn about the different holidays that are celebrated, such as Thanksgiving, New Years, and Cinco de Mayo by participating in group activities.  Students will also be working from their individual work binders to ensure that they meet Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

We will visit exciting places within the community. Our Community-Based Instruction (CBI) trips include visiting a pumpkin patch in the fall, and Target, and Stop & Shop where we will practice following directions within the community and following a personal shopping list. We will also be attending special trips to Flippin’ Out and the bowling alley. Life skills is a part of our Life-Centered Curriculum which allows students to practice everyday tasks such as cleaning and cooking. In Kitchen, Dorm, Laundry (KDL), students will have the opportunity to cook recipes in the kitchen, make a bed and sort clothing into drawers in our dorm room, as well as sort and fold laundry in our laundry room. Students will also work with our Consumer Family Life (CFL) teacher to practice life skills.
