Dear Students and Families,
Hello and welcome to Room 104! I look forward to watching the students grow as they encounter new experiences this school year. Our educational programming focuses on the whole student as academics, life skills, and social skills are addressed by using a variety of methods such as technology, pictures, social stories, and manipulatives. In this classroom, we focus on the abilities and strengths of the students. Academics include Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The classroom curriculum is based on monthly units and the students’ individual program goals.
Life skills is part of our Life-Centered Curriculum which allows students to practice everyday tasks such as cleaning and cooking. In Kitchen, Dorm, Laundry (KDL), students will have the opportunity to cook recipes in the kitchen, make a bed and sort clothing into drawers in our dorm room, as well as sort and fold laundry in our laundry room. Students will also work with our Consumer Family Life (CFL) teacher to practice life skills. Community-Based Instruction (CBI) is exciting as we will be visiting places such as Target and Stop & Shop to practice purchasing items. NAO is The Phoenix Center’s robot who teaches the students socials skills, while focusing on increasing their expressive language. The students are extremely excited to interact with NAO!
Maintaining open lines of communication is key to student success. We will communicate daily through the Home-School Communication book or via email. Please be sure to let me know your preference in order for us to best share information.
