Room 108 – Kristin Cody

Kristin Cody, The Phoenix Center

Hi and welcome to 108! I am looking forward to an exciting and productive school year.

In Room 108, we create a positive learning environment for students to succeed academically, functionally and socially. The objective of the classroom is to teach the students through positive reinforcement, verbal praise, and functional academics. Our main focus is working on life skill strategies that will help strengthen students’ independence. Some of our life skill strategies include making the bed, putting away clothes, and vacuuming in the dorm room. We will also work on following simple no-cook recipes, setting the table, and various other classroom jobs. Daily life skills are extremely important to our school and we practice those skills throughout the school day.

Throughout the school year, Room 108 will be learning about holidays, current events, seasonal topics, weather, health, hygiene, and other varied themes. In our classroom, we use hands-on experiences, the SMARTBoard, and other technology to model real life skills and bring learning to life. We go on CBI (Community-Based Instruction) once a week, where we experience the community as a group to practice life skills, such as shopping or dining out.

Maintaining open lines of communication is vital to student achievement, so I encourage you to use the daily communication logs or email me directly:

Please check Home-School Communication books for important forms, information and pictures. If you have any questions, concerns or if you would like to visit our classroom or schedule a conference you can contact me via email or you can contact me at 973-542-0743, ext. 108 between 8:00-8:30 am or 2:45-3:00 pm.
