Room 111 – Sue Browne

Dear Students and Families,

Welcome to Classroom 111!

The students in 111 focus on academics and functional skills that they will need in life beyond the classroom. They work on a wide range of life centered activities including folding, sorting and hanging clothes; making a bed; cleaning tables and windows; and vacuuming. In addition, students practice making snacks/meals using bake and no bake recipes. They practice using measuring cups, whisking and mixing, and following step by step directions. Working on social skills is also a part of each student’s daily routine.

During our Community-Based Instruction (CBI), the students will practice skills needed out in the community such as purchasing items and practicing dining skills. CBI locations include trips to stores such as Target, Stop and Shop, Dollar Tree and even trips to the Paramus Park Mall later in the year.

Classroom 111 will also work closely with Classroom 112 for Social Studies and Science groups. During these groups the students will explore different current events and learn about holidays and/or special events celebrated in different cultures throughout the year. Discussions will also include types of weather during the different seasons and the appropriate attire for each, as well as, conserving the environment by discussing what materials are garbage versus recycling.

In Classroom 111, we encourage students to work as independently as possible with the support of the staff when needed.  We want our students to succeed and we celebrate each success! I am excited to work with each and every student and partner with their parents/guardians!
