Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to Room 203! Our educational programming focuses on preparing our students for post-secondary options by using a multi-modal approach to academics. The goal is to create a positive learning environment where students are constantly working on their individual program goals. Students learn through hands-on activities, lessons on the SMARTBoard and iPad, as well as through manipulatives and worksheets. Students work independently, as well as in small and large group settings. In addition to the content areas, the academic program also includes life skills activities, vocational skills, communication skills, social skills, community-based activities and behavior management. Our class will also work on increasing vocational skills through a variety of hands-on activities in the classroom.
In our Science and Social Studies groups, we will be focusing on environmentalism and landforms. We will also practice our problem solving skills through STEM and STEAM projects. Look for us on Facebook!
We are also very excited to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone with fun themed activities and projects. Look for your Hogwart’s acceptance letter!
Our class will also go out for Community-Based Instruction (CBI) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On our outings, students will focus on increasing money skills, social skills, and generalizing skills learned in the classroom into the community.
