35 Years of Excellence: The Power of Parent Partnership

As we continue celebrating 35 years of excellence, we’re shining a light on one of the most heartfelt chapters in our history: the incredible partnership between home and school. From the earliest days, The Phoenix Center has believed that true progress happens when families and educators work hand-in-hand. That parent partnership philosophy came to life in 1992 with the creation of our home-school association, Partners in Caring (PIC).

A Foundation Built on Compassion and Commitment

Founded by a group of devoted parents, Partners in Caring (PIC) quickly became a cornerstone of our school community. Their purpose was simple but powerful: to enrich the lives of our students and recognize the staff who nurture them every day.

Through the years, PIC has sponsored fundraisers that directly enhance our students’ experiences, bringing to life everything from classroom materials and assemblies to the beloved Holiday Boutique and the much-anticipated Staff Appreciation Day in May. Their commitment has created moments of joy and connection that ripple through every hallway at The Phoenix Center.

We remain deeply grateful to this dedicated group of parent volunteers who ensure our staff feel valued and supported, and whose efforts remind us that community is built one act of kindness at a time.

More Than a Parent Group

PIC is more than a fundraising organization; it’s a lifeline that connects families to one another and to the mission of The Phoenix Center. Over the decades, this partnership has sparked countless family-centered activities from bowling nights and family picnics to restaurant outings, holiday events, and workshops that empower parents to navigate the unique challenges and triumphs of raising a child with special needs.

This deep sense of community has helped shape who we are. The collaboration between parents and educators doesn’t just enhance our programs, it strengthens the very foundation of what makes The Phoenix Center thrive. Because when families feel supported, students flourish.

Celebrating 35 Years of Partnership and Progress

The story of Partners in Caring is a reminder that The Phoenix Center is more than a school…it’s a family. For 35 years, parents have given their time, creativity, and love to help our students and staff succeed. Their legacy is one of compassion, connection, and unwavering belief in what’s possible when we work together.

This is the second story in our yearlong celebration of The Phoenix Center’s 35th anniversary. If you haven’t yet read how it all began, start here, and join us each month as we continue sharing the stories and people behind our legacy of excellence.
